Slow Cooker Apple Cobbler {and Slow Cooker Giveaway}

Cool fall days call for warm dessert.  This simple apple cobbler fits the bill and it's made in your slow cooker!

One thing I don't do too often is use my slow cooker for desserts.  Since I decided to do this slow cooker week (check out my recipe for Chicken Pot Pie Soup and Apple Snack Mix), I thought I might as well try a slow cooker dessert.

When would this be a good idea?  How about when you don't want to turn the oven on?  In the summer, perhaps?  Or when you oven is full of other goodies!  What about putting dessert in the slow cooker on a Sunday morning so it would be ready when you got home from church?  Using my slow cooker for dessert has opened up a new window of opportunities (and brainstorms!) for me.   Expect to see more recipes in the future!

I chose to make a slow cooker apple cobbler.  To be honest, I had originally planned to use some peaches that were on the verge of going bad.  Of course when I went to prepare them, I realized I only had 3 left and that wasn't enough for this dessert.  Since it's fall and I have a plethora of apples in my basement, I decided to make an apple cobbler instead.

Let me tell you...this dessert was delicious!  It tasted just like the one Mike's mom makes, but without a long list of ingredients for the topping since this one uses a boxed cake mix.  Admittedly, if you're following my clean eating journey, you'll notice that this doesn't exactly fit those parameters...oh, the sacrifices I make for you! ;)  This was delicious and totally worth it though!  I think I'll be trying this recipe with other fruits too...blackberry cobbler, anyone?

Now that I've shared a few slow cooker recipes with you, maybe I should tell you about the slow cooker I used!  I was sent a Hamilton Beach Set and Forget Slow Cooker for the purpose of this review and giveaway.  I knew I would love it because I've had one since we got married.  It got a lot of use, so I was happy to receive an upgrade!

I love this slow cooker.  My favorite aspect is the warm function.  I can program it to cook for 6 hours and then it stops cooking and just keeps the food warm.  Basically, I don't have to worry about my meals getting overcooked anymore.  Less worries for this mama!

Hamilton Beach has generously offered to give away one Set and Forget Slow Cooker to one of my lucky winners.  You can enter using the entry form below!

Slow Cooker Apple Cobbler

Serves 8

6 large apples
1 box white cake mix
1 stick butter

1.  Peel, core, and thinly slice apples.  Place in the bottom of your slow cooker.

2.  In a mixing bowl, cut the butter into the cake mix until it is crumbly.

3.  Sprinkle the cake mixture over the sliced apples.

4.  Place a paper towel on top of the slow cooker and put the cover on.  (The paper towel helps prevent moisture build-up.)
